He claimed he believed he was helping a friend struggling with addiction, but later became overwhelmed with guilt after learning Perry had died.
“I was overwhelmed with grief and shame,” Fleming reportedly stated.
He also apologized for what he described as his “inexcusable behavior” and said he accepted full responsibility for his criminal actions.
“I hope my sentence provides some measure of justice and peace for everyone who loved Matt,” he added.
Authorities say Fleming played a key role in a wider network of individuals who allegedly exploited Perry’s addiction for financial gain.
