Investigators say Perry had relapsed into substance abuse after years of publicly battling addiction.
Federal prosecutors argued during Fleming’s sentencing that the counsellor knowingly helped fuel Perry’s dangerous drug use despite understanding the risks involved. Prosecutors originally requested a prison sentence of two and a half years.
Meanwhile, Fleming’s legal team pushed for a significantly lighter punishment, asking the court for just three months in prison followed by nine months inside a residential treatment facility.
In court, Fleming reportedly appeared emotional and remorseful.
