Officials argue subscribers trusted those assurances and believed they were paying for a streaming service that respected their privacy.
Instead, the lawsuit claims, Netflix allegedly built the very type of surveillance system many customers believed they were avoiding.
“Texans trusted that bargain,” the complaint says. “Netflix broke it.”
The legal action accuses the company of violating the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act, which prohibits misleading or deceptive business behavior.
Texas is now asking the court to force Netflix to permanently delete any data authorities say was deceptively collected from residents of the state.
