Officials are also demanding that the company stop using Texans’ information for targeted advertising purposes and disable auto-play features by default on children’s profiles.
Netflix has strongly denied the accusations.
In a statement shared with Reuters, the company said the lawsuit is based on “inaccurate and distorted information” and insisted it takes user privacy seriously.
Netflix maintains that it complies with privacy and data protection laws in every country where it operates and says it plans to challenge the lawsuit in court.
The case arrives during a growing global debate over whether major technology and entertainment platforms intentionally design their apps and services to become psychologically addictive.
