He was quieter.
More distracted.
Sometimes I’d be talking to him at the dinner table and realize, halfway through my sentence, that he wasn’t really listening. His phone would be sitting beside his plate, and every few minutes he’d glance at it as though he were waiting for something.
I asked him about it once.
“Is everything okay?”
