Unlike injectable medications, orforglipron comes in the form of a simple once-daily pill — something experts say could make long-term treatment easier and more appealing for many patients.
The medication works similarly to current obesity injections by mimicking GLP-1 hormones naturally produced in the body. These hormones help regulate appetite, slow digestion, and create a longer-lasting feeling of fullness after eating.
In simple terms, the pill helps people feel less hungry and more satisfied with smaller amounts of food.
The clinical trial followed 376 adults in the United States who had already spent more than a year successfully losing weight using injectable drugs like semaglutide (Wegovy) or tirzepatide (Mounjaro).
Participants then stopped taking the injections entirely.
