A major legal battle is unfolding in the United States after Texas officials accused Netflix of secretly collecting massive amounts of personal data from users — including children — without properly informing them or obtaining meaningful consent.
The lawsuit, filed by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, claims the streaming giant built a sophisticated system designed not only to monitor viewers’ behavior in extreme detail, but also to keep them addicted to the platform for as long as possible.
According to the complaint, Netflix allegedly tracked billions of interactions made by users while presenting itself publicly as a privacy-friendly alternative to other tech companies known for aggressive data collection.
“When you watch Netflix, Netflix watches you,” the lawsuit dramatically states.
