If sentenced to the maximum penalty, Wang could face up to 10 years in prison.
In a statement released through her attorneys, Jason Liang and Brian Sun, Wang admitted responsibility for what they described as “past personal mistakes” and apologized publicly.
“She apologises and is sorry for the mistakes she has made in her personal life,” the statement said.
Her legal team also insisted that Wang remained deeply committed to the Arcadia community despite the allegations.
“Her love and devotion for the Arcadia community have not changed and did not waver,” the statement added.
The case has quickly become one of the most closely watched investigations involving alleged Chinese influence operations targeting local American officials.
Federal authorities described the plea agreement as a major victory in efforts to combat foreign interference inside the United States.
First Assistant US Attorney Bill Essayli issued a strong warning following the announcement.
