After stepping away from YouTube to protect his family’s privacy, Luke “Outdoor Boys” Nichols quietly returned to the screen — for someone else’s family.
The King of Cold Camps Just… Vanished
For years, Luke Nichols — better known as Outdoor Boys — was one of the biggest names in the outdoor and survival corner of YouTube. His channel racked up around 18 million followers, drawn in by long, no-nonsense videos about winter camping, bushcraft, and family adventures.
Solo nights in improvised shelters, camping on frozen ocean ice, riding out snowstorms with only the gear on his back — if it looked brutally cold and ridiculously difficult, chances are Luke filmed it, explained it, and calmly walked viewers through it.
Then in May 2025, he did something many creators talk about but few actually follow through on: he retired the channel.
In a farewell video, Luke explained that the decision came down to one thing above all: protecting his family’s privacy and peace. The channel had become massive. The audience, attention and pressure only grew. At some point, the cost to his family outweighed the benefits of posting more content.
He let fans know there were a few pre-recorded videos still to come, but the message was clear: Outdoor Boys as a weekly presence was over.
