How the egg topper actually works
The design looks strange, but using it is simple – and honestly, pretty satisfying.

1. Start with a proper soft-boiled egg
The white should be set, the yolk still liquid. That’s the ideal “patient.”
2. Stabilize the egg
Set it in an egg cup, shot glass, or anything that keeps it upright and steady.
3. Position the tool
Place the circular cutting edge of the topper directly over the top of the egg, centered on the dome.
4. Create the “snap”
Most models have a spring-loaded ball or plunger. You pull it up, then let it snap back down. That quick thwack sends a shockwave through the ring, scoring the shell in a perfect circle.
5. Lift the cap
Remove the topper and simply lift off the little shell “lid” it just cut.
What you’re left with is a neat, open egg – no shattered shell, no mess – ready for a spoon, salt, and toast soldiers.
