The Timeline of John the Baptist

Perhaps the most intriguing clue comes from the timeline surrounding John the Baptist.

According to Luke chapter 1, John’s father, Zechariah, belonged to the priestly division of Abijah.

Researchers who study the Jewish priestly calendar have attempted to calculate when Zechariah would have served in the Temple. Based on these calculations, some scholars estimate that Elizabeth conceived John the Baptist shortly afterward.

Luke further tells us that Jesus was conceived approximately six months after John.

Using this timeline, some calculations place Jesus’ birth somewhere between late September and early October.

Although these calculations cannot be proven with absolute certainty, they have led many scholars to consider an autumn birth as a realistic possibility.

The Feast of Tabernacles Connection

One theory that fascinates many biblical researchers is the possible connection between Jesus’ birth and the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles, also known as Sukkot.

This festival celebrates God’s presence dwelling among His people during Israel’s journey through the wilderness.

Interestingly, John 1:14 declares:
