Trump’s Comments on Reclassifying Cannabis
Speaking at a press conference earlier this year, Trump said his administration is actively considering whether cannabis should be reclassified under federal law.
He explained:
“We’re looking at reclassification, and we’ll make a determination over the next – I would say, over the next few weeks, and that determination hopefully will be the right one.”
In a rare admission of complexity, he added:
“It’s a very complicated subject.”
Trump also drew a sharp distinction between medical and recreational use, saying he had:
“Heard great things having to do with medical and bad things having to do with just about everything else.”
His comments have resurfaced as a newly recognized health condition linked to heavy, long-term cannabis use is getting more attention from doctors.
