Not everyone is content to leave the rules as they are.
US Representative Andy Ogles has previously floated the idea of changing the law to allow presidents to serve three terms instead of two, which would directly affect what someone like Trump could legally attempt in the future.
Even so, Trump himself has also been talking about who might come after him, rather than only about staying on.
When asked by CNBC who he’d see as an ideal successor, he immediately named Vice President JD Vance.
“In all fairness, he’s the vice president,” Trump said. “And he would be probably favoured at this point.”
For now, the Constitution still caps presidents at two terms – but between “TRUMP 2028” images, “TRUMPLICANS” branding and talk of possible rule changes, the conversation around what comes next for both Trump and the Republican Party is far from settled.
