3. Swelling in the abdomen, legs, ankles, or feet
Fluid buildup can be another serious sign of liver damage. This may appear as a swollen belly, tighter clothing around the waist, puffy ankles, or swelling in the legs and feet. When swelling becomes persistent or noticeable, it should be checked promptly.
4. Bruising or bleeding more easily than usual
The liver helps make proteins involved in blood clotting. When liver function declines, some people may begin to bruise more easily or notice bleeding that seems unusual, such as frequent nosebleeds, gum bleeding, or bruises from minor bumps.
