Threats Expand Beyond the US
As the fallout widened, Russia’s warnings were no longer directed solely at Washington.
Lieutenant-General Andrey Gurulev openly suggested retaliatory measures against civilian shipping.
“There is nothing stopping us from imposing sanctions against all ships heading to Black Sea ports,” he said. “Or even sinking them if we don’t like something.”
The implication was unmistakable.
Global trade routes—already strained—could become targets.
Meanwhile, Dmitry Medvedev, deputy head of Russia’s Security Council, issued a blunt message aimed squarely at the US political leadership.
“Don’t play games with Russia,” he warned.
No qualifiers.
No diplomacy.
Just a line drawn in the water.
