Russian Officials Issue Nuclear Threat After US Seizes Russian-Flagged Oil Tanker

Russian lawmaker Alexia Zhuravlev did not mince words.

In comments reported by multiple outlets, he urged President Vladimir Putin to respond militarily.

“The response must be firm and swift,” Zhuravlev said. “Our doctrine even allows for the use of nuclear weapons in such cases.”

He went further.

He called on Russia to sink American Coast Guard vessels with torpedoes.

The rhetoric stunned even seasoned observers.

While hardline statements from Russian officials are not new, invoking nuclear doctrine over a seized tanker marked a dramatic escalation.

Another senior figure—the deputy chairman of Russia’s parliamentary defense committee—added fuel to the fire.

“The United States is acting in a euphoria of impunity,” he said. “Only a sharp slap on the nose will stop them now.”
