“This is not the first time” – a father’s response
Trump and his allies have been pushing for redrawn congressional maps that favor states with Republican governors, aiming to strengthen their position in the 2026 midterm elections. But Bohacek — a Republican himself — has now publicly said he will vote against the redistricting plans, citing Trump’s language as a key reason.

In a statement, Bohacek explained that his stance is deeply personal. His second daughter has Down syndrome, and he’s spent years advocating for people with intellectual disabilities.
“Many of you have asked my position on redistricting,” he wrote. “I have been an unapologetic advocate for people with intellectual disabilities since the birth of my second daughter.
“Those of you that don’t know me or my family might not know that my daughter has Down Syndrome. This is not the first time our president has used these insulting and derogatory references and his choices of words have consequences.”
Because of that, Bohacek said he will be voting NO on redistricting, adding that Trump has “the next 10 months to convince voters that his policies and behavior deserve a congressional majority.”
