Important Considerations Before You Make It a Habit
6. Social Norms (and Shared Showers)
Even if you personally don’t see an issue, other people might.
- In a shared home, your partner or roommates might find the idea disgusting.
- In a shared dorm, gym, or public shower, it’s just not respectful to do it.
Bottom line: what you do in your own private shower is your call – but it’s not a habit to export to every bathroom you use.
7. Odor and Diet
If your diet includes foods like asparagus, strong spices, or certain vitamins, your urine can smell pretty intense.
- In a small, poorly ventilated bathroom, that smell can linger a bit.
- Good ventilation and a quick rinse of the drain area help keep the bathroom fresh.
8. Plumbing and Drain Reality
Standard home plumbing is designed to handle water and wastewater, including urine. So from a pipe perspective:
- Occasional peeing in the shower isn’t going to destroy your plumbing.
- The real risk to pipes is more from hair, soap scum, and grease than from urine.
As always: don’t throw wipes, paper, or weird stuff down drains and you’re fine.
9. Personal Hygiene
If you do pee in the shower:
- Make sure the water is running and rinsing everything away.
- Wash your body as usual with soap.
- Give the floor and drain area a quick rinse afterward.
