Modern tanker operations don’t rely on the chain alone. Many fleets now use extra grounding methods and technologies on top of it.
Some trucks are equipped with static grounding reels – retractable cables that the operator clips to a verified ground point during loading and unloading. Many depots and fuel stations require this connection before any product is transferred.
In some cases, anti-static additives are blended into fuels to help reduce static buildup. Tank designs and internal coatings are also optimized to minimize friction and improve charge dissipation.
All of these measures – including that “basic” dragging chain – are layered together to create a safer overall system for moving flammable materials on public roads.
