Shannon said she spotted what looked like gift-style string tied tightly around the driver’s side door handle of a car.

At first, it just seemed odd. But then she noticed a similar setup on another vehicle.

In her video, she joked darkly, “Someone better not get kidnapped,” which quickly led viewers to interpret the string as some kind of signal or setup for an abduction attempt.

The idea many people ran with: the string or wire is designed to slow you down. While you’re focused on trying to untie or remove it, you’re distracted and vulnerable near your car.
