You’ve probably seen the meme: a strange blue plastic gadget and the line, “Marry the girl who doesn’t know about this thing.” It looks like a joke about innocence and “good girls.” In reality, the joke completely misses the point.
That mysterious blue object is not a toy, not a trend and not a symbol of promiscuity. It’s a pelvic floor exercise device – a tool used to strengthen the muscles that support the bladder, bowel and, in women, the uterus and vagina. Doctors recommend pelvic floor exercises (often called Kegels) to help with bladder leaks, postpartum recovery and pelvic organ support. They can also improve comfort and sexual function for many people.
So no, the punchline isn’t, “She’s pure if she doesn’t know it.” The real story is: “She’s informed and taking care of her health if she does know it.”
