She was elected to the Arcadia City Council in November 2022 as part of the city’s five-member governing body. In Arcadia, council members rotate the position of mayor rather than electing a permanent one.
City officials stressed that the investigation appears focused on Wang’s personal conduct rather than any broader corruption within city government itself.
Arcadia City Manager Dominic Lazzaretto attempted to reassure residents in a public statement posted on the city’s website.
“The allegations at the centre of this case, that a foreign government sought to exert influence over a local elected official, are deeply troubling,” Lazzaretto said.
“We take them seriously.”
