Will there really be a $2,000 check in your mailbox?

That’s where things get messy.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has already poured some cold water on the idea in a Fox Business interview, saying “we will see” if the dividend actually happens.

He also made it clear that nothing is locked in – not the income thresholds, not the exact amount, and definitely not the funding mechanism.

Bessent floated a version where the payments might go to “families making less than, say, $100,000”, showing that even inside the administration there’s no fixed formula yet.

On top of that, any such plan would need to go through Congress. This isn’t a simple executive decision – it would require legislation to approve hundreds of billions of dollars in spending every year.
