Afterward, Nick and I went out for ice cream. We hadn’t done that in years. We sat in the car with cones in hand, watching the sunset.

Our house took a few weeks to fully repair. The floors were replaced, the walls were redone, and the furniture was delivered. It looked like home again. But somehow, it felt even more like ours now.
