Her lungs trembled. She felt the floor tilt beneath her even though she wasn’t moving. She had been right. Too right. And now she was lying in front of a man who thought she was dying — or dead. She had walked blindly into a nightmare that had been weeks in the making.
The soft click of the phone ending made her heart slam against her ribs. Footsteps. Slow. Heavy. Measured. Travis’s voice came next, low and deliberate:
“Isabella?”
