Man Shot and Killed by Federal Agent in Minneapolis as Protests Escalate After Renee Good ICE Shooting

What Federal Officials Say Happened

DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said officers believed their lives were in immediate danger.

“The officers attempted to disarm the suspect, but the armed suspect violently resisted,” McLaughlin said. “Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots.”

She added that emergency medics provided aid at the scene, but the man was pronounced dead shortly afterward.

Federal officials also stated that the man was carrying two magazines and had no identification on him at the time of the shooting.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara later confirmed during a press conference that the deceased was a 31-year-old man, believed to be an American citizen.

Chief O’Hara also announced that police had declared the area an unlawful assembly and ordered crowds to disperse.

Protests were already underway in response to the January 7 killing of Renee Good, and the latest shooting intensified public anger and fear.
