18. Sealing Leaky Gutter Seams
Every metal gutter connection is a potential leak point:
- End caps
- Splices
- Drop outlets
- Miters (inside/outside corners)
Use a gutter seam sealer formulated for standing water and UV exposure. Key property: it should be self-leveling and runny enough to penetrate deep into seams.
Steps:
- Scrape out as much old tar/caulk as possible.
- Make sure surfaces are clean and completely dry.
- Apply seam sealer generously along the joint.
- Keep the tube warm on cold days so it stays fluid.
