15. Repairing a Short Section with a Slip Joint
If only the last few feet of your seamless gutter are damaged (say, from a fallen branch), you don’t have to replace the whole run.
You can cut off the damaged section and install a new piece using a slip joint:
- White and brown gutters: home centers sell matching gutters and slip joints.
- Custom colors: make your own slip joint from a box miter.
Steps for custom slip joint:
- Buy a box miter in your gutter color.
- Cut a 3-in. section from it with tin snips — that’s your slip joint.
- Hang new gutter beside the old.
- Slide the slip joint over the seam to bridge and seal both pieces.
