13. Water Getting Behind the Gutter
If you see water dripping behind your gutter, it probably means there’s no flashing between shingles and gutter.
Solution: install a gutter apron.
- It’s a bent metal piece that tucks under shingles and over the back of the gutter.
- Sold in 10-ft sections at home centers.
Basic steps:
- Temporarily remove hangers as needed.
- Slide apron under shingles and over gutter lip.
- Fasten with sheet-metal screws.
If you already have drip edge and gutters are hung below it, tuck rolled flashing under the drip edge and over the gutter instead.
