If Your Ears Do Any of These 6 Things, Don’t Ignore It

3. Skin tags around the ears

Small, soft skin growths near the ears often look harmless – and in adults, they usually are.

However, in newborns and very young children, ear-area skin tags can sometimes be a clue that doctors should also take a closer look at kidney development. That’s because the ears and kidneys form around the same time during pregnancy, so irregular growths in one area can occasionally be linked to issues in the other.

This doesn’t mean every ear skin tag is dangerous. In most adults, they’re benign. But if a skin tag becomes painful, swollen, changes color, or starts bleeding, it’s best to have it examined by a doctor or dermatologist.

4. Earlobe creases (Frank’s sign)

A diagonal crease running across the earlobe – often called Frank’s sign – has been linked in some studies to a higher risk of coronary artery disease (CAD).

Not everyone with an earlobe crease has heart problems, and not everyone with heart disease has this crease. But research suggests there may be a connection between this mark and reduced blood flow to the heart.

If you notice an earlobe crease and you experience symptoms such as:

– Chest pain or tightness
– Shortness of breath
– Lightheadedness or fainting

you should see a doctor as soon as possible. Your ear might be giving you an early clue about your heart health.
