ICE Detained a 5-Year-Old After School — and the School Leader Says Agents Used Him as “Bait”

What the School District Says Happened in the Driveway

According to Superintendent Stenvik, the boy — Liam Conejo Ramos, a student at Valley View Elementary — was apprehended on Tuesday as he returned home from school with his father.

In the driveway.

In broad daylight.

In the place that’s supposed to be the safest part of a child’s day.

Stenvik said another adult living in the home was outside and begged agents to let him take care of Liam.

She said the request was refused.

And then came the detail that turned stomachs.

Stenvik said an agent took the child out of the still-running car, led him to the door, and directed him to knock and ask to be let in.

Not because the child needed to go inside.

But, as Stenvik described it, to see if anyone else was home.

Her words were blunt:

She said the child was used as “bait.”

After that, Stenvik said agents took Liam and his father away in a vehicle and sent them to Texas.

Think about the sequence.

A school pickup.

A driveway.

A knock on a door ordered by adults with authority.

A child used as a tool in an enforcement operation.

And the next thing anyone knows, he’s gone.
