The Night Everything Broke
It was 1:47 a.m.
My wife thought I was sedated. She’d slipped pills into my tea earlier that night.
I watched her do it.
I poured the tea down the sink, got back into bed, and waited.
Through the thin bathroom door, I heard her voice — calm, precise, rehearsed.
- She named the bank.
- She gave the PIN.
- She quoted the balance.
And then she said the sentence that ended my marriage:
“Why do you think I married him?”
That was when the cold settled in.
