According to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, Ashman succumbed to his injuries roughly a week after being struck while walking home from El Toro High School in the city of Lake Forest. The incident has deeply shaken the local community, where Ashman was widely respected for his service both in the military and in education.
A Tragic Incident
Authorities allege that Mejer’s 14-year-old son was riding a high-powered e-motorcycle on April 16 near the intersection of Toledo Way and Ridge Route Drive. Witnesses and investigators say the teen was performing dangerous stunts, including wheelies, when he collided with Ashman.
Instead of stopping, the rider reportedly fled the scene, leaving the elderly man seriously injured. Emergency responders transported Ashman to the hospital, where he remained under care until his death days later.
