After a while, the pressure became too much, and Freddie had to leave Paris. He didn’t just run away to hide; he joined the French Resistance to fight back against the Nazis. He lived in the woods and took part in secret missions, showing that he wasn’t just a clever talker, but a brave soldier too.
Sadly, he was eventually caught and sent to the most famous and terrible place of all: Auschwitz. Even in that place of nightmares, Freddie didn’t give up. He worked hard, stayed strong, and survived the “death marches” through the freezing snow at the end of the war.
When he was finally saved by British soldiers, he was incredibly thin and weak, but his spirit was still there.
