Step 2: Use Emergency Contacts (If Set Up)
You can configure emergency contacts in your Pixel’s settings ahead of time. When your phone connects to a satellite in an emergency:
- Your emergency contacts can be automatically notified.
- They may receive your location and basic status information, depending on your configuration and available features.
This is especially useful if you’re hiking, driving in remote areas, or traveling alone. Even if you can’t talk long, your contacts will know where to start looking.
When & Where Satellite Features Work Best
Satellite connectivity is designed as a last resort, not a replacement for normal service. It works best when:
- You’re in a remote or rural area with no towers around.
- You’re outdoors with a clear view of the sky.
- You urgently need to contact emergency services or send your location.
It may struggle or fail when:
- You’re indoors, underground, or inside a metal vehicle or structure.
- You’re in a dense city canyon between tall buildings.
- There’s heavy tree cover, severe weather, or obstructions blocking the sky.
