Major outlets and reporters quickly knocked the story down.
CNN anchor Jake Tapper posted a video flatly rejecting the idea:
He explained that no, Obama does not receive royalties from the Affordable Care Act; the claim originated on the Dunning-Kruger Times, which openly labels itself as satire, and that “everything on this website is fiction.”

Despite that, the rumor kept circulating, helped by Trump’s amplification and by people treating a parody headline as breaking news.
When pressed about why Trump would share the claim, a White House spokesperson pivoted away from the specific accusation and instead attacked Obama’s post-presidency wealth – noting he became a multimillionaire and bought a Martha’s Vineyard estate after leaving office – while contrasting that with Trump’s claim that he “lost money in office.”
But none of that changes the core point: there is no evidence Obama has ever been paid “Obamacare royalties,” let alone $40 million.
