Did Obama Really Make $40 Million from ‘Obamacare’ Royalties? Here’s What Actually Happened

Earlier this month, President Donald Trump jumped on Truth Social to boost a viral claim about former President Barack Obama – that Obama had supposedly collected $40 million in “royalties” from Obamacare since 2010.

The post Trump reshared claimed a company had “halted yearly payment of $2.5 million to Barack Obama for royalties linked to Obamacare,” which would come to around $40 million total. Trump added a one-word reaction: “WOW!”

On the surface, it sounds explosive: the president who created the Affordable Care Act allegedly cashing in on it personally.

But once you actually trace where the claim came from, the whole story falls apart.

Obamacare – officially the Affordable Care Act – was passed in 2010 to expand access to health insurance across the US. It’s been a political battleground ever since, with Trump repeatedly attacking it as “bad healthcare” and calling for the money to be sent “directly to the people” instead of insurance companies.

So a claim that Obama has been quietly raking in millions from the law fits neatly into that narrative… which is exactly why it spread so fast.
