President Edgars Rinkevics has since confirmed that consultations will begin immediately to form a new government as quickly as possible. A decision regarding Latvia’s next prime minister is expected in the coming days.
Evika Silina had served as Latvia’s prime minister since September 2023 and led a three-party coalition government. Despite the political collapse, many analysts believe the drone controversy merely accelerated tensions that had already been building inside the coalition for months.
Now, with elections approaching and regional tensions remaining extremely high, Latvia enters a new period of political uncertainty at one of the most sensitive moments for European security in recent years.
