Cole found himself sitting alone in his living room, replaying the moment over and over. He had spent years believing he was “firm but fair.” But now the truth stared back at him: He had been profiling without even realizing it.

Cole felt something shift—a crack in a wall he didn’t know he’d built. “What… what happens next?” he asked.
