The case shocked the United States from the moment it became public. A Utah mother who wrote a children’s book about grief after the sudden death of her husband has now been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after being convicted of murdering him with a fentanyl-laced drink.
Kouri Richins, 36, received the sentence on Wednesday after a jury found her guilty earlier this year of poisoning her husband, Eric Richins, inside their home near the luxury ski town of Park City in 2022.
The sentencing hearing became even more emotional because it took place on what would have been Eric Richins’ 44th birthday.
