17 Winter Survival Hacks to Get You Through the Season

  1. Wax Your Snow Shovel So Snow Slides Off
To stop heavy snow from sticking:
    • Use car wax on a clean, dry (ideally metal) shovel blade.
    • Apply a thin layer with a damp cloth, let it haze, then buff with a dry cloth.
The waxed surface is slick, so snow and ice won’t cling and each scoop is easier.
  2. Back-of-Door Glove & Hat Drying Rack
Wet hats and mittens thrown in a bin never dry properly. Instead:
    • String clothespins onto aluminum wire (it won’t rust).
    • Stretch the wire between screw eyes on the back of a closet or mudroom door.
    • Clip gloves, hats and scarves so they can actually dry and stay organized.
Works great in the garage for work and garden gloves too.
